Abstract

While instances of hermaphroditism are known \nto occur in the European mackerel (Scomber \nscombrus L. no such cases are on record \nfcr the Indinn mackerel, Rastrelliger canagurta. \nIt is interesting to report, therefore, the occurrence \nof a single hermaphrodite specimen of \nR. canagurta in a sample taken from the fish \nmarket at Karwar and reported to have been \ncaught at Majali, seven miles north of 'Karwar \non 25th March 1958.
