Abstract

The occurrence of young mackerel, Rastrelliger \ncanagurta (Scomber microlepidotus of Day, \n1876) which We have noticed in l arge numbers \non 21st and 23rd March and on 20th April 1953 \nin the shore-seine ca tches on the Madras Coast \nis worthy of record. It is not uncommon to find \nyoung mackerel along the West Coast of India \nin the months of July to September (Chidambaram \net al .. , 1952; Bhimachar and George, \n1952; Panikkar, 1952).
