Abstract
This article examines the terms "production system", "cyber-physical system" and "cyber-physical production system". The paper is a scientific investigation for the similarities and differences between them. Through systematic analysis and synthesis of the main content and structural characteristics of the terms "production system", "cyber-physical system" and "cyber-physical production system" their definitions are upgraded and refined. Criteria are highlighted according to which similarities and differences are synthesized, and through analysis similarities and differences are synthesized, conditioned by the definitions of the studied concepts. The results of the analysis indicate that from the point of view of production engineering, the cyber-physical production system integrates in its content and in its structure the specificity of the real-time production process and provides more reliable cyber protection, flexibility, efficiency and added value, compared to the other two concepts studied.
