Abstract
Starting with a historical outlook on the housing market and housing policy, the book's Sweden chapter describes the various tenure types on the Swedish housing market as well as the main traits of housing policy, including municipal housing companies and the use-value rent setting system, and discusses current issues with respect to tenure neutrality and affordability. The description of tenure types focuses mainly on the regimes that are particular to Sweden, such as tenant-ownership and cooperative tenancy, and distinguishes between housing tenure and land tenure - the latter category comprising self-owned land, land lease and land leasehold. In the evaluative section of the chapter section of the chapter, the authors identify affordability as the most acute current problem on the housing market.
