Abstract
Global cities are the command centers of the global economy and major hubs in the transnational flow of capital, people, ideas, and practices. The architecture of the global urban network is structured by these various flows. Global city status is maintained and attempted through hosting international events, marketing campaigns, and urban makeovers. Global cities are sites of cosmopolitanism and increasing social polarizations.
