Abstract

Abstract Trans*, transgender, transsexual, and genderqueer people include those individuals who do not identify with the sex or gender assigned to them at birth. They may or may not take steps to better express their gender identities, which may include altering their appearances through social, hormonal, or surgical techniques. Trans*, transgender, transsexual, and genderqueer people suffer from institutionalized and systemic discrimination. Despite these barriers, many trans*, transgender, transsexual, and genderqueer people are successful and contributing members of society.
