24. Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage (World Heritage Convention)

The forty-third session of the World Heritage Committee was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 30 June to 10 July ( ). This report provides an overview of developments since the previous session, changes to the World Heritage List and the List of World Heritage in Danger, and other key outcomes of the meeting. There will be a special focus on the several new inscriptions that relate to industrial heritage, which provide an insight into industrial heritage values and the challenges involved in site protection. The work of the World Heritage Centre over the preceding year was noted by the committee, particularly regarding the identification and protection of ‘tangible heritage’ and the implementation of the five strategic objectives of the World Heritage Convention (namely, credibility, conservation, capacity building, communication, and communities) (Decision 43 COM 5A).
