Enhanced oil recovery by carbon dioxide injection is becoming almost a cliche in the Northern Basin of W. Texas, as several projects near implementation and quite a few others are proposed and studied. A projected CO/sub 2/ flood in the Post Montgomery Unit of the Garza Field in Garza County, Texas, will receive CO/sub 2/ indirectly from a power plant in Lubbock. Ground-breaking for a plant built to recover CO/sub 2/ from the waste-stack gases discharged by the Lubbock Power and Light Holly Street Plant took place in Aug. According to Carbon Dioxide Technology Corp., the plant is the first in the world to take CO/sub 2/ from a power plant and use it to recover oil and the largest ever built for waste-stack gas recovery. The plant, to occupy 3 acres, will have the capacity to produce 1100 tons of CO/sub 2//day, or 19.8 mmcfd. Capital cost for the facility scheduled for completion in Sept. 1982, is $32 million. This cost includes the construction of a 35-mile pipeline from the CO/sub 2/ recovery plant to the Post Montgomery Unit. Carbon Dioxide Technology's plant will use new technology to strip the CO/sub 2/ from the power plant stack gas, drymore » it, and then compress it into the pipeline for delivery to the oil field.« less
