Abstract
Completion of the definition study to move 300 mmscfd of carbon dioxide (CO/sup 2/) from Colorado to west Texas marks another milestone on the enhanced recovery (ER) trail. Improving oil prices and the need to recover every barrel possible are positive catalysts for building a 20-in. pipeline some 420 miles to the Permian Basin. Declining production in the basin is another. As a result of studies begun by Arco Oil and Gas in 1972, leasing of land and the formation of 2 development units put the project into position for drilling and producing CO/sub 2/. The conceptual design for such production facilities showed similarity to natural gas production except that it costs more. Enhanced recovery CO/sub 2/ projects could potentially recover up to 40% of all ER oil.
