Abstract

Approximately 70,000 hoursof V-GdatafromoneQ_peof two-engine transport airplane weresmalyz~to determine theseveri~andfrequency of occurrence of thegustloadsmd gusts.Thedatawereobtained during routine feeder-weandshort-haul cmmercial operations on sixdifferentroutes from1947to 1955.Theresults obtained indicate thatnormal accelerations corresponding to thecalculated valueof Umit-gust-loadfactor increment msybe exceeded, on theaversge, twice(once positive andoncenegative) within therangeof 3.6x 106to 106.o X 106fMght milesforthevarious operations.A derived gustveloci~of 50 feet persecond maybe exceeded twice within therangeof 0.8x 106to 23.5X 106flight miles.There weresizable variations among thedifferentoperatiom withregard to the airspeeds, but,in general, these -tide as thoseexperienced in airplane.As apart of a number ofyears loads, gustvelocities, andoperating quantities wereof thessmeorderof pastoperations of thesametypeof -.-.
