Abstract

This article describes the new federal funding provided to the transportation sector via the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) legislation specifically in terms of the new projects and recent projects afforded by the stability of this market. Although the bill only presents about a three percent increase due to inflation coupled with the rising cost of asphalt and fuel, there are still a number of projects bolstered by the spending as this article describes. It provides a set of lists of the biggest spending projects by type: the top 50 transportation spending projects, the top 26 bridges, the top 25 highway projects, the top 25 airports, the top 10 in port and marine facilities, and the top 20 mass transit and rail project costs.
