“ Twain's Art in Making Jim a Hero in Adventures of Huckleberry Finn ” Titik Wahyuningsih English Department, Faculty of Letters, Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto titikwahyuningsih@ump.ac.id ABSTRACT The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is one of the well-known stories by Mark Twain and is considered the documentation of America. It was banned before it was finally published. One of the reasons was that it depicts the relationship between the white and a black man. Not only that, the black man was the hero for Huck,  as many researches suggest. This research will be done through the lense of expressive theory.  There will be discussions on how Mark Twain applied his way in making Jim a hero in the story. Through the episodes of the plot, as well as the use of language, we can see how Twain put Jim from zero to hero.  Jim who was once a slave changed into a father for Huck the white young man.
