Metrological Analysis and Evaluation of Acupuncture-moxibustion Treatment for Constipation in Modern Literature

Objective:To review year 1956—2005 literature and explore point selection and methods for acupuncture-moxibustion treatment of constipation.Methods:A comprehensive analysis was made by a method of metrological analysis according to the data from China modern acupuncture-moxibustion information databank.Results:Tianshu,Zusanli,ear Large intestine and Dachangshu were the points most frequently used.As an acupuncture-moxibustion treatment for constipation,ear acupuncture ranked first,acupuncture second and moxibustion third.Conclusion:Ear acupuncture and acupuncture are common and effective ways to treat constipation.It is proposed to use Tianshu and Zusanli as a basic prescription for acupuncture-moxibustion treatment of constipation.Other points can be selected according to the syndrome.
