Concentration Analysis and Health Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals in Leafy Vegetables in Tungsten Pollution Area of South China

Abstract

In order to investigate the status of heavy metal pollution and edible safety evaluation in vegetables in Tungsten Pollution Area of South China,total of 93 vegetable samples from rural households are collected.Pollution status and health risk of Cd,Pb,As and Zn are analyzed.The results show that Cd,Pb,As and Zn are detected in three types of vegetable samples with the average content of 0.093,0.043,0.23 and 6.46mg/kg wet weight.The single factor pollution index assessment shows that Cd in redskin vegetable is at the medium pollution level and other metals are at clean levels.The comprehensive factor pollution index assessment shows that metals in redskin vegetable is at the light level with the index of 1.74,and in cabbage and spinach are clean level with the indexes of 0.40 and 0.30.The mean of heavy metal THQ(Target Hazard Quotient)of vegetables from large to low is as follows:Cd>Pb>Zn>As.The compound health risk index is much higher than cabbage and spinach.Health risk of heavy metal from the intake of local vegetables is higher for children than for adults.
