Being Black Means being Powerless: Exploring Institutional Racism in Nic Stone’s Dear Martin (2017)

The current research deals with institutional racism in America with special reference to the novel Dear Martin (2017) by Nic Stone. The concept of Institutional Racism by Stokely Carmichael and Charles V. Hamilton have been used as theoretical framework to uncover the racial discrimination at covert as well as overt level. The research has qualitative approach and textual analysis has been used as an analytical design. The researcher concludes that racism still exists in the American society and the dark skinned are treated with discrimination particularly at institutional level. America is a so-called democratic power which denounces racism at individual level but still black people are subjected to racial profiling at institutional level.
