The CPSU Central Committee and Development of Electronic Computing Machines in the USSR in 1958-1962

Abstract

The present study analyzes the policy of the CPSU (Communist Party of the Soviet Union) Central Committee in the sphere of development of electronic computing machines. The author pays special attention to the Decree of the CPSU Central Committee and the Council of Ministers of the USSR dated October 6, 1958, which laid the basis for development of the Soviet electronics. Furthermore, the author considers new inventions in this sphere related to the use of semiconductors and microelements. The author comes to conclusion that the CPSU Central Committee in a timely manner reacted to the suggestions of government departments and took all necessary steps regarding the development of electronic computing machines (ECM) in the USSR.
