Abstract

The durian shell was used as the sorbent to remove methylene blue (MB) from wastewater. The mechanism for methylene blue sorption was studied along with equilibrium isotherm and kinetic study. Methylene blue sorption performance strongly affected by different operating conditions such as methylene blue concentration, adsorption time, pH and temperature. The pseudo-2nd-order model well described the methylene blue sorption kinetics. Langmuir isothermal model best fitted for the experimental equilibrium sorption of methylene blue and predicted the maximal adsorption of methylene blue was 100.45 mg/g. Moreover, the adsorption by durian shell was an spontaneous and endothermic procedure. The equilibrium, kinetic and thermodynamic properties suggested that the process of durian shell absorbed MB in solutions was mainly controlled by chemisorption. Economical, easy available and better efficiency made durian shell as an efficient adsorbent to treat methylene blue wastewater.
