Abstract
This report presents the results of the analysis of Millstone Unit One nuclear power plant, which was performed as part of the Interim Reliability Evaluation Program (IREP). Two of the IREP objectives have been achieved by this analysis. They are: (1) the identification of those accident sequences which can be expected to dominate the risk related to the operation of Millstone 1, and (2) the development of system models that can be used for future, more extensive probabilistic risk assessments of Millstone 1. The analysis used fault tree and event tree models as the primary tools to evaluate the risk due to a core melt at Millstone. Core melt sequences initiated by one of three break size LOCAs or one of five categories of transients were evaluated, and the dominant, highest frequency sequences were further analyzed to determine radionuclide release categories. The sequences were assigned to release categories.
