IDENTIFYING THE FORMATION OF WORD IN THE PRESENTER WORLD

The spread of slang is incredibly fast, especially among people who use various media, such as TV. This research is aimed to understand the word-formation processes of Indonesian slang words found in The Comment TV program and the meaning of the words themselves. Slang words also undergo some processes in their formation; those slang words are formed through a specific process. The research design of this study is descriptive qualitative. This study used observation and documentation as methods. The theory of word-formation processes has been previously studied by Leech (2014). The data were collected through observation and document analysis. The researcher found 4 types of word-formation. There were 64 Indonesian slang words which are found from the hosts ’ and guests ’ utterances. The researcher found 31 instances of borrowing, 13 of clipping, 11 of coinage, 9 of blending. By knowing how the slang word formed, it can help the audience to increase their knowledge, especially in understanding the process of how slang words are created in society and are being used in conversation. The hope is that this will be useful for other researchers who are interested in morphological studies .
