Current situation and countermeasures on development of fishery research system in China

【Objective 】The orientation of promoting sustainable development of fishery research was proposed to provide references for scientific researchers in fishery in China. 【 Method 】 Structure, research projects, achievements and major constrains of fishery research institution were analyzed, following which some advice for sustainable development of Chinese fishery research institutions was presented. 【 Result 】 Although the achievements made by fishery re-search institutions helped the expansion of fishery production scale, improved the effective utilization of water resources and productivity, developed new aquaculture species and accelerated the innovation of production models, some constrains still existed in fishery research institutions, including poor innovation capacity, unimproved evaluation system of research outputs, lower efficiency of utilizing the research outputs and lack of integration on scientific resources. 【Suggestion】The countermeasures for sustainable development of fishery research are put forward, including establishing innovative system of fishery technology, improving evaluation system of research outputs, advocating academic criticism,developing circular and ecological economy, strengthening international fishery cooperation and giving priority to capacity building of fishery innovative talents.
