External adrenal pheochromocytoma

Abstract

Objective To inprove the diagnosis of external adrenal pheochromocytoma. Methods From 1958 to 1998, 66 cases of external adrenal pheochromocytoma, 23 3% of pheochromocytomas, at the same period in the Department of Urology, RuiJin Hospital were reviewed. Results In the 66 cases, the malignant rate was high (33%). Conclusions 131 I MIBG is important in the diagnosis and treatment of external adrenal pheochromocytoma. Long term follow up after operatoin is imperative to the cases of external adrenal pheochromocytoma.
