[External adrenal pheochromocytoma].

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To improve the diagnosis of external adrenal pheochromocytoma. METHODS: From 1958 to 1998, 66 cases of external adrenal pheochromocytoma, 23.3% of pheochromocytomas, at the same period in the Department of Urology, RuiJin Hospital were reviewed. RESULTS: In the 66 cases, the malignant rate was high (33%). CONCLUSIONS: (131)I-MIBG is important in the diagnosis and treatment of external adrenal pheochromocytoma. Long-term follow up after operation is imperative to the cases of external adrenal pheochromocytoma.
