Abstract

Objective To study the expression and significance of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF),cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and microvascluar density (MVD) in colorectal carcinoma. Methods VEGF protein expression,COX-2 and MVD in 56 colorectal carcinoma tissues,20 colorectal inmatous tissues and 20 nontumoral tissues were examined by SP immunohistochemistry staining technique. Results The positive rate of VEGF and COX-2 expression in colorectal carcinoma tissues was higher than that of neighboring non-cancerous tissues and normoral tissues(P0.05),MVD was significantly higher in VEGF and COX-2 positive colorectal carcinoma than that in VEGF and COX-2 negative colorectal carcinoma(P0.05),but VEGF、COX-2 and MVD were positively correlated with Dukes stage, lymph node metastasis and liver metastasis of carcinoma(P0.05).Conclusion VEGF and COX-2 were co-expressed in colorectal carcinoma,The expression of the VEGF and COX-2 may play an important role in colorectal carcinogensis by promotion of angiogenesis,They can be used as useful markers which guide the treatment and prognosis of colorectal carcinoma.
