Abstract
Aim To survey the bionomics of Culex tritaeniorhynchus in Hanzhuang Encephalitis B Monitoring Site,Shandong Province, and provide scientific basis for mosquito control. Methods Dipping method was used to investigate the breeding sites of Culex tritaeniorhynchus larvae, and benet capture with man-bait was used for capturing adults mosquitoes and observe their night blood-sucking and seasonal fluctuations. Results The highest larval density was found in the seeding beds, followed by rice fields or reed ponds. The adult Cx. tritaeniorhynchu appeared firstly in May,reached peak in July, and disappeared in the September. The blood-sucking activity of the mosquitoes lasted all the night, with the peak times in 1-3 hours after sunset and daybreak. Conclusion The larval density of Cx. tritaeniorhynchu in the breeding sites was affected by waters, hydrophytic vegetation and other factors. The control measures made for both larval and adult Cx. tritaeniorhynchus should be based on the natural condition of the locality.
