Abstract

Objective To explore the significance and relationship between the over-expressions of hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIT-1α) and Ki-67 in prostatic carcinoma. Methods The expression of hypoxia inducible factor-1α and Ki-67 were studied by immunostaining methods in 62 prostatic carcinomas and 15 prostatic proliferations. Results The positive expression rate of HIF-1α and Ki-67 was 69% and 64% respectively in prostatic carcinoma. The high expression of HIF-1α and Ki-67 was significantly related with the histological grading, clinical staging of prostatic carcinoma (P0.05).The expression of HIF-1α was correlated with expression of Ki-67 (rs=0.362,P0.01).Conclusion The expression of HIF-1α may play an important role in carcinogenesis and progression of prostatic carcinoma. It is closely related with tumor cell proliferation.Detection of HIF-1α protein may be valuable to further understand the biological behaviors of prostatic carcinoma.
