Abstract
Purpose To detect the expression of hypoxia inducible factor 1α(HIF-1α),p53 and Ki-67 in cervical carcinoma and to investigate the relationship between them.Methods Immunohistochemical staining(SP method) was used to detect HIF-1α,p53 and Ki-67 expression in 61 cases of cervical carcinoma.Results Expression of HIF-1α was observed in 40(65.57%) cases.HIF-1α expression increased with clinical stage,depth of infiltration and pelvic lymph node metastasis(P0.05).The expression of HIF-1α was significantly associated with p53 and Ki-67 expression(P0.000 5).Conclusions There is HIF-1α over expression in cervical carcinoma,which is accommodated with hypoxia and promotes the proliferation of the cancer cells.HIF-1α has a limited capacity to induce p53-mediated apoptosis,which leads further to imbalance of apoptosis/proliferation and effects on the progression of carcinoma of the cervix.
