Abstract

The morphological characteristics and bionomics of overwintering larvae of Proceras venosatus and the following offspring were studied. The characteristics of egg, larva, and pupa in different age were described. P. venosatus is an insect species with facultative diapause. By diapause they overwinter and oversummer. One or two generations occur each year in northern Hunan. The pre oviposition period of female adults is 2~3 d; the larva has six instars, each instar from the first to the sixth lasts 2~3, 6~7, 5~7, 9~11, 8~10, and 11~12 d respectively; the pupal stage is about 9~11 d.
