Abstract
The rise of the new institutionalism in social science,such as economics,politics and sociology in 1970s and 1950s,has exerted their great influence on the education research.This paper tries to explore systematically the development of the old and new institutionalism in sociology,their basic concepts,framework of analysis and their application in educational field.It also discusses the problems and trends of the application of the old and new institutionalism in the study of educational organiza- tions.
