Abstract
To study the situation of filariasis after basic elimination and the transmissive effect of the residual microfilaemia, we carried out a cross and longitudinal surveillance from 1989 to 1996, and examined 1 237 871 persons, as a result, 140 mocrofilaemia cases were detected in the surveillance areas. Yearly microfilaremia rate decreased from 0.05% in 1989 to 0.004% in 1993 and no microfilaremia cases were found after 1994. In the same period, 89 957 mosquitoes were dissected and 3 positive mosquitoes were found. No infectious larvae were found in mosquitoes after 1993. The results showed that filariasis transmission has been interrupted in the Province.
