Surveillance and Assessment for Elimination of Filariasis in Guangdong Province

Abstract

Objective To elimiate filariasis in Guangdong province.Method To find out and treat the rest microfilaremias by horizontal surveillance systems in human masses and mosquito vectors. Results Systemic horizontal surveillance was carried out in 1980～2000. Of a total of 1575905 tested human cases, 4074 were found to have microfilaremia and treated normally with DEC.From the year of non microfilaremia found,a total of 316544 and 520120 persons of blood examination were made repectively during 10 years and over 10 years after controlled filariasis,and 250377 C.quinquefasciatus and 2297 An.sinensis were dissected without filarial larvae found.The results showed that the route of filarial transmission had been interrupted in Guangdong province. Conclusion Filariasis had been eliminated in Guangdong province.
