Abstract
Infrared photometry for the total flux from the Crab nebula using the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) survey detectors is presented. The observations show an infrared excess beyond 12 microns over the extrapolated radio and near-infrared fluxes. The break in the radio spectrum occurs at approximately 1 x 10 to the 13th Hz, consistent with an average magnetic field strength of roughly 300 microgauss. The luminosity excess is approximately 1000 solar luminosities and is interpreted as due to thermal emission from 0.005-0.03 solar masses of dust in the nebula.
