Abstract

[Objective] To investigate the significance and correlation of serum Cox2 activity and IFN-γ level in ApoE gene-deficient (ApoE-/-) mice. [Methods] ApoE-/- and C57BL / 6J male mice (wild type, WT) in the same genetic background were fed with normal pellet diet, and then 10 mice in each group were killed respectively in the 14-day old, 1-month old, 2-month old and 3-month old. The serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1) were assayed using COD-PAP and GPO-PAP methods. The serum Cox2 activity and IFN-γ level were tested, while correlation between them was also examined. [Results] All the indexes of ApoE-/- mice were significantly higher than those of WT mice in different age groups (P﹤0.05). There was a clear correlation between serum Cox2 and IFN-γ. [Conclusion] Serum Cox2 and IFN-γ in ApoE-/- mice significantly increased and there was a clear correlation between them (r = 0.6752). which could be an important reason of atherosclerosis.
