Abstract

The ..delta..E--E detector method has been used to study experimentally the formation of complex particles (the isotopes /sup 2/H, /sup 3/H, /sup 3/He, and /sup 4/He) in interaction of 660-MeV protons with the nuclei /sup 9/Be, /sup 10/B, /sup 11/B, /sup 12/C, and /sup 27/Al. For the hydrogen and helium isotopes, the absolute production cross sections and the functions d/sup 2/sigma/dEd..cap omega.. and dsigma/d..cap omega.. have been measured over wide ranges of particle energies and angles in the laboratory system. The main kinematic characteristics of the secondary particles are analyzed, and a discussion is given of the mechanism of their production in terms of ideas regarding the cluster structure of nuclei.
