Breeding and utilization of indica hybrid rice II You 798.

A new indica hybrid rice combination,II You 798 was derived from Ⅱ-32A and restorer line Haihui 798.It was characterized by compact plant type,vigorous growth,big panicles with many grains,high and stable yield,fine grain quality,good lodging resistance,wide adaptability,strong resistance,and high seed production yield potential,etc.It was registered by Hainan Committee for Crop Variety Registration in May,2009.This paper summarizes the breeding procedure,main characteristics and seed production techniques for this variety.Its seed production techniques includes the selection of suitable sowing season and blooming stage,rational close planting density,scientific management of water and fertilizer,adequate spraying of GA3,improving outcrossing rate,eliminating the impurity strictly,making sure seed quality,and proper control measures for insect-pest and diseases.
