A study to determine the perceived effectiveness of technical and vocational program advisory committees in Texas community colleges

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of vocational and technical program advisory committees as perceived by vocational and technical program chairmen. This study sought to determine the effectiveness as it relates to all aspects of committee organization and function. Of eighty-two program chairmen selected to participate in this study, fifty-nine of the chairmen returned useable responses, representing a return of seventy-two percent. The study was conducted during the spring and summer of 1973 using a survey instrument composed of four major sections. The first section gathered data on the program and the program chairman. Section two dealt with information about committee members and section three requested information on advisory committee meetings. The last section of the instrument dealt with committee functions and advisory committee effectiveness. Sex of the program chairman, the educational level of the chairman, and the number of meetings per year had the most significant relationship to perceived advisory committee effectiveness. Many other aspects of committee selection, membership, utilization, and program background had positive relationships to committee effectiveness; however, these relationships were not statistically significant..
