Abstract
The success of an endodontic therapy depends mainly on the elimination of bacteria and their by-products from the root-canal system and prevention of reinfection. Effective irrigant delivery as well as its activation are prerequisites for a successful endodontic therapy7This article presents an overview of the irrigant activation methods currently available and their cleaning efficacy. Technological advances have introduced new irrigant activation systems that mostly rely on various mechanisms of irrigant transfer, soft tissue debridement, and smear layer removal. These devices can beclassified into the manual and machine assisted systems. Overall, they appear to have resulted in improved canal debridement when compare with conventional syringe needle irrigation system.
