Abstract

This research purpose to describe ecranisation of characters and setting on M. Butterfly drama to movie with using of aspects of omission, addition and alteration in drama ecranisation to the film form M. Butterfly by Hwang. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The data source of this research is M. Butterfly Drama and Movie. The focus of the research are the characters and setting. Data obtained by reading, watching, and note taking techniques. The results of this study indicate the ecranisation that occurs in the character, and setting, namely the existence of omission, addition and alteration. Omission of characters, and settings occur because the media used in making dramas and movie are different. Overall, the reduction in the visualization to the movie form is still reasonable because the removal of the story, characters, and setting is taken in a part that is not so important to visualize. Addition of characters, and settings in the movie as a whole are still relevant to the story in the drama, it's just that the visualization in the movie is made more interesting with many conflicting stories, the presence of additional characters and settings that appear so that the story in the movie is not monotonous as in drama. The appearance is to add to the essence of the movieso that viewers will be brought into the story line. As for the Alteration of characters, and the settings made in the visualization of the movie as a whole are not far off the portrayal of the drama.
