Clinical observation of intravitreal injection of small dose with triamcinolone acetonide for macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion

Objective To observe the clinical effect of intravitreal injection with small dose of triamcinolone acetonide(TA) for macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion.Methods 35 cases(35 eyes) with macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion were collected,every eye was injected TA 2 mg by intravitreal injection.the visual acuity,intraocular pressure,fundus and macular retinal thickness were observed.Results The corrected vision was improved after intravitreal injection,1 week,1 month,3 month respectively after treatment,the mean corrected vision increased 0.09,0.15,0.24 compared with pre-treatment.The mean thickness of macular fovea was decreased 116 μm,328 μm,502 μm by optical coherence tomography examining.No intraocular pressure increased in all cases.No complications such as retinal detachment,vitreous hemorrhage or endophthalmitis occurred.Conclusion Treatment of intravitreal injection with 2mg TA for macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion is a safe and effective method.
