Abstract
Objective To study the level changes of serum T helper cells in children with mycoplasmal pneumonia(MPP) and its significance in pathogenesis of MPP. Methods A total of 71 children who were hospitalized and made a definite diagnosis as pneumonia in Department of Pediatrics in the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University and Qingdao Central Hospital from May to December in 2011, and 15 normal children took physical examination in Department of Child Health in the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University at the same time were chosen as study objects.According to pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumonia(MP) or not, 71 pneumonia children were divided into MPP group (n=36) and non MPP (NMPP) group (n=35), and 15 normal children were bringing into normal control group.Collected 3 mL peripheral venous blood of children in three groups.The peripheral blood concentrations of interferon(IFN)-γ and interleukin(IL)-4 of all subjects were detected by double antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(DAS-ELISA). The different levels of serum IFN-γ, IL-4 and the ratio of IFN-γ/IL-4 among 3 groups were compared by statistical method.There were no significant differences among 3 groups in age and sex constituent ratio(P>0.05). Results Comparison of cytokine levels in 3 groups of subjects: Levels of serum IFN-γ and serum IL-4 in MPP group were higher than those in normal control group[(173.1±29.2) ng/L vs (152.3±28.2) ng/L, (124.8±34.7) ng/L vs (80.0±24.6) ng/L], but the ratio of IFN-γ/IL-4 was lower than that of normal control group[(1.6±0.7) vs (2.2±1.1)], and the differences were statistically significant(P 0.05). Conclusions There was an response imbalance of Th1/Th2 in MPP children in acute phase and Th2 was relative to a dominant status.This immune imbalance may have important significance in immune pathological damage and the pathogenesis of pulmonary complications of MPP.
