Abstract
Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase(IDO)is an intracellular hemeprotein enzyme which catalyses the essential amino acid tryptophan.Accumulating evidences have demonstrated that tryptophan depletion and its toxic metabolites can suppress local allogeneic T cell proliferation and lead to apoptosis. With the study of the mechanism of immune regulation of IDO goes further,it have emerged as a proming enzyme in organ transplantation and tumor treatment. We reviewed in the article the immune regulative mechanism of IDO and its effects in transplantation tolerance and tumor escape. Key words: indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase; transplantation tolerance; tumor escape
