Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of ultrasound biomicroscopy on the multiple scleral chestnut thorn foreign bodies removing. Methods A retrospective analysis of multiple scleral chestnut thorn foreign bodies in 42 eyes of 42 patients. After confirming the diagnosis of multiple foreign bodies of sclera with ultrasound biomicroscope, the chestnut thorn was confirmed by the operation. Results Multiple scleral chestnut thorn foreign bodies were removed in 42 patients under the locating and guiding of ultrasound biomicroscope and no scleral necrosis, perforation or endophthalmitis occurred. Conclusion Ultrasound biomicroscopy can timely detect and locate the plant sclera foreign bodies, and the foreign bodies can be removed under the guidance of the UBM. Key words: Foreign body, scleral, multiple; Ultrasound biomicroscopy; Extraction
