Application of Montelukast in cough variant asthma

Objective To study the application of montelukast on cough variant asthma (CVA).Methods One hundred and twelve patients with CVA were randomly divided into control group(56 cases) and treatment group(56 cases).Patients in control group were treated with β2 agonists and inhaler of Corticosteroids (ICS).Patients in treatment group were treated with β2 agonists and leukotriene receptor antagonist montelukast.The treatment lasted for 4 weeks.The patients were followed up for 3 months.The cough symptomatic grade and side-effect were observed and the clinical efficacy was evaluated between the two groups.Results The cough symptomatic grade had no significant difference between two groups before treatment (P ＞ 0.05).The cough symptomatic grade,total effective rate and side-effect had no significant difference between the two groups after treatment (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusions Montelukast combined with β2 agonists can effectively control CVA.The effect of montelukast was up to that of ICS.The side-effect of montelukast was mild and it may be one of principal medicines of CVA.
