Application of topical anesthesia in phacoemulsification for high myopia

Abstract
Objective To explore the efficacy of topical anesthesia in phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation for high myopia.Methods 59 cases(71 eyes) of high myopia combined with cataract underwent phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation under topical anesthesia.Intraoperative complaints,surgical complications and clinical efficacy were observed.Results There were no pain in 61 eyes(85.92％ ),slight pain in 6 eyes(8.45％ ) and mild pain in 4 eyes(5.63％ ).Posterior capsular rupture occurred in one eye.No retinal detachment were found.The visual acuities were at ＞ 0.3 accounting for 67.6％ and at ＞ 0.5 accounting for 36.6％ at 3 months after the operation.Conclusion Phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation for high myopia under topic anesthesia is reliable and effective with less complications.
