Abstract

Objective To measure the thickness of levator of each eyelid and compare the differences using ultrasound biomicroscopy. Methods Eighty upper eyelids ot 60 bilateral or unilateral congenital dysmyogenic and aponeurotic blepharoptosis patients were measured by the clinical standards and categorized into four groups.Ultrasound biomicroscopy was applied to measure the thickness of levator of each eyelid and to see if there were significant differences. Results The measurements of four groups were 0.578±0.038mm,0.483±0.039mm,0.481±0.043mm,0.439±0.036mm respectively.Significant difference was found between the groups (P <0.01).Conclusions The thickness of the levator aponeurosis can be measured and grouped with ultrasound biomicroscopy which can provide clinical guidance on the surgical treatment of blepharoptosis. Key words: Blepharoptosis; Levator muscle; Ultrasound biomicroscopy; Measurement
