Clinical significance of S100A6 protein expression in human lung adenocarcinoma

Abstract
Objective To explore the clinical and pathological significance of expression of S100A6 protein in lung adenocarcinoma. Methods S100A6 protein expression in 98 cases of lung adenocarcinoma tissues pathologically confirmed and the matched normal lung tissues was detected by Western blot method. Results The expression of S100A6 protein in lung adenocarcinoma tissues was higher than that in the adjacent normal lung tissues (t=19.884, P 0.05), but was significantly correlated with smoking index, tumor cell differentiation, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and clinical stage (all P<0.05). There was significant difference in the survival time between low expression group and high expression group (P<0.05). COX multivariate proportional hazard regression analysis revealed that tumor differentiation, TNM stage and S100A6 protein expression were some independent prognosis factors of lung adenocarcinoma. Conclusions S100A6 is over-expressed in lung adenocarcinoma tissue and could be a valuable biomarker to predict tumor occurrence and development.
