Effects of two selective beta 1 receptor blockers on plasma brain natriuretic peptide and cardiac function in patients with chronic heart failure

Abstract

Objective To observe the effects of two selective beta-blockers on plasma brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and cardiac function in patients with chronic heart failure. Methods Eighty patients with chronic heart failure who were treated at our hospital from May 20 to April 2017 were selected as study objects and were divided into a control group and an observation group using random number table method. Both groups took conventional medication. The control group were treated with metoprolol and the observation group with bisoprolol. The changes of BNP and cardiac function were observed before and after the treatment. Results There no statistical differences in left ventricular end diastolic diameter (LVEDV), left ventricular end systolic diameter (LVESV), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), BNP, and so on between the two groups before the treatment (all P>0.05). After the treatment, the LVEDV, LVESV, and BNP were lower and the LVEF was higher in the observation group than in the control group, with statistical differences (all P<0.05). Conclusion Compared with metoprolol, bisoprolol is more effective in improving BNP level and cardiac function in patients with chronic heart failure and hindering disease deterioration, which can promote the improvement of the patients' prognosis and quality of life to a certain extent.
