Abstract
Objective To evaluate the efficacy of 25 G vitrectomy in the treatment of open eye injury in children. Methods The data of 36 eyes of 36 cases of 5-14 years old children with open eye injury were retrospectively analyzed. Among them, there were 7 cases of Ⅰarea with traumatic dislocation of the lens, secondary glaucoma or hypopyon; 10 cases of Ⅱ area with vitreous hemorrhage or opacity and 19 cases of Ⅲ area, with retinal detachment, choroidal detachment and vitreous hemorrhage. All cases received 25 G vitrectomy in 5-10 days after the first stage debridement. During the surgery combined with iris repair, cataract extraction and pupilloplasty in 16 cases. Vitrectomy combined with membrane peeling in 5 cases. Silicone oil tamponade was in 8 cases and C3F8 filling was in 6 cases. Followed up for 6-12 months. Results The postoperative visual acuity was improved in 77.78% (28/36), impaired vision in 5.55% (2/36) and unchanged in 16.67% (6/36) . Postoperative complications: retinal detachment in 2 cases, 1 case received rescleral compression surgery secondly, 1 case received silicone oil tamponade once more; high intraocular pressure in 4 cases, after drug treatment the IOP was controlled. Conclusion 25 G vitrectomy is a safe and effective method for the treatment of open eye injury in children. Key words: Vitrectomy, 25 G; Ocular trauma, open, children; Efficacy
