Abstract

Objective To study the therapeutic effect and the operation time of vitrectomy for traumatic endophthatmitis in children. Methods The traumatic causes, traumatic objects, visiting time, clinical findings, treatment and effects were retrospectively analyzed for 17 eyes of 17 cases. Results 4 cases were treated with drug injection into the vitreous cavity only.13 cases were treated with vitrectomy (2 cases were treated by vitrectomy and silicone oil tamponade.1 cases were treated by vitrectomy and C3 F8 tamponade.10 cases were treated by vitrectomy, lensectomy and silicone oil tamponade.) The visual acuity was improved in 9 eyes(52.94%).Visual acuity of 5 eyes (29.41%) did not change, while visual acuity of 3 eyes (17.65%) decreased. Conclusion As for the clinic features of endophthalmitis in children,Vitrectomy combined with sensitive antibiotics is the effective method to control traumatic endophthalmatis. The lens could be reserved only in cases of slight symptom. Key words: Children; Endophthalmitis, traumatic; Vitrectomy; Drugs injection, intravitreal
