Effect of intraocular lens implantation after phacoemulsification on intraocular pressure and visual acuity in patients with angle closure glaucoma and cataract

Abstract

Objective To study the effect of intraocular lens implantation after phacoemulsification on intraocular pressure (IOP) and visual acuity in patients with angle closure glaucoma and cataract. Methods 46 cases (86 eyes) of angle closure glaucoma and cataract in outpatient clinic of our hospital from July 2014 to December 2016 were enrolled in this study, and divided into observation group (42 cases) and control group (44 cases) according to the random number table. The observation group was treated with intraocular lens implantation after phacoemulsification, while the control group was treated with intraocular lens implantation combined with trabeculectomy after phacoemulsification. Observed the intraocular pressure and visual acuity of the two groups. Results The excellent rate and the excellent and good rate in the observation group were 78.57% (33/42) and 90.48% (38/42), significantly higher than 52.27% (23/44) and 70.45% (31/44) in the control group, with statistically significant differences between the two groups (P<0.05). After treatment, the IOP and visual acuity in the two groups significantly improved, those in the observation group improved more significantly (P<0.05). Conclusion Intraocular lens implantation after phacoemulsification for patients with angle closure glaucoma and cataract can effectively alleviate the IOP, enhance the visual acuity, with high safety, worthy of recommendation.
