Abstract
Objective To investigate the genotypes and genetic characteristics of the pathogens associated with an outbreak of acute gastroenteritis in Leshan city, Sichuan province. Methods Three stool samples and 3 vomitus samples from an acute gastroenteritis outbreak and 6 stool samples from healthy children were collected. Norovirus nucleic acid was detected by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. The positive samples were amplified by conventional reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and the amplicons were sequenced. Results Six samples from the acute gastroenteritis outbreak were positive for norovirus. Sequence alignment and phylogenetic analysis showed that these 6 strains of virus belonged to GⅡ.2 genotype. Conclusions This outbreak of acute gastroenteritis was caused by genotype GⅡ.2 norovirus. Key words: Norovirus; Gastroenteritis; Outbreak; Etiological characteristics
